TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN SHOT BY DEPUTY MONDAY SUSPECTED OF BURGLARIZING HOMES, VEHICLES IN YUCCA VALLEY

The Sheriff’s Department has released more information about the deputy-involved shooting in Yucca Valley Monday morning. According to a press release, several residents called about 7:30 a.m. to report that a man and woman, dressed all in black and carrying a tan blanket, were running through back yards in the 7800 block of Amador Avenue in Yucca Valley. Deputies located the man, identified as Daryll Speer, 22, of Twentynine Palms, and an unidentified woman in the wash near Trojan Lane and Highway 62. Speer was allegedly armed with a gun. When he refused their commands to drop it, he was shot by at least one deputy. A witness told Z107.7 News that he heard three gunshots. Daryll Speer was taken to Desert Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
Detectives from the homicide division are conducting the investigation. They have determined that Speer was entering unlocked vehicles and backyards in the area of Amador and Navajo Trail. Two residents in the area have reported being victims of theft. Anyone with information concerning the investigation should call Detective Arturo Alvarado at 909-387-3589.
