TWENTYNINE PALMS MAN INJURED IN HIGH-SPEED DIRT BIKE PURSUIT FRIDAY NIGHT

A 25-year-old man was seriously injured following a high-speed pursuit on a dirt bike in Twentynine Palms Friday night. According to the Sheriff’s department, Deputy Ryan Arthurton saw the bike rider, later identified as Bruce Edginton, illegally riding an off-road motorcycle westbound on Two Mile Road at Mariposa Avenue about 9:47 p.m. Friday. The deputy tried to stop Edginton, who then fled to Lear Avenue, turned southbound to Highway 62, eastbound on the highway to Utah Trail, and north on Utah to Amboy Road. Arthurton said Edginton ran red lights on Highway 62 with speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, and drove into oncoming lanes of traffic with blatant disregard for other motorists’ safety. Edginton ran the red light at Amboy and Adobe Road and was struck by a Dodge Caravan driven by Raven Castruita, 31, of Twentynine Palms. The motorcycle flew into Arthurton’s patrol car after being hit by the Caravan. Castruita and Arthurton were uninjured during the crash, but Edginton suffered major injuries and was flown to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Deputies searched Edginton’s backpack and found marijuana and a glass methamphetamine pipe. A report will be sent to the district attorney’s office for review.
