A 24-year-old Twentynine Palms man who is suspected of driving under the influence caused a two-vehicle crash, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies were called to the intersection of Highway 62 and Tamarisk Avenue at 6:38 p.m. Friday. Deputies say Alexander Chavez was driving a Nissan sport utility vehicle southbound on Tamarisk Avenue when he broadsided a Volkswagen sedan traveling east on Highway 62 through the intersection. Deputies determined that Chavez was exhibiting signs of intoxication and was driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs. Alexander Chavez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, and was cited and released.
