TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL SELECT CHOIR PRACTICING FOR CARNEGIE HALL PERFORMANCE

On a New York City street, an out-of-town visitor stops a policeman and asks, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The cop answers, “Practice, practice, practice.” Dan Stork says that the Twentynine Palms High School Select Choir is doing that, and a lot moreā€¦
The Twentynine Palms High School Select Choir, having been invited to participate in a multiday workshop for elite choirs in April in New York City, which culminates in a multi-choir concert at the famed performance venue Carnegie Hall, is doing plenty of practice. But the cost of travel for 22 singers and four chaperones will amount to $58,000, so the group and the TPHS Music Boosters are also doing plenty of fundraising. Of the needed sum, the students themselves have been tasked with raising $5000, towards which they’ve been working with a car wash, a cheesecake sale, and an upcoming “Slime a Teacher” event. Local residents will have the opportunity to support the fundraising effort, and see and hear the choir strut its stuff, at a pair of concerts on Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16. The owners of Smith’s Ranch have donated their facility for the pair of concerts, both of which start at 7 p.m. You’re invited to come out and support the Choir’s efforts with a donation, and enjoy a great show while you’re at it. You can also donate through contact information available in this story at Z1077fm.com. Send a check to TPHS Music Boosters, P.O. Box 1681, Twentynine Palms, CA 92277. For more information, contact Anita Clinkscales, Music Booster president, at 760-361-5306 or at [email protected].
