TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADERS PREPARE FOR COMPETITION

With football season winding down, the cheerleaders at Twentynine Palms High School are now getting ready for competition. ROP broadcast student Madeline Samarin talks with cheerleading coach Tresa Oden……
Being a cheerleader at Twentynine Palms High School is more than just games and long practices; it is also competitions. The cheerleading coach Mrs. Oden says that “Our first competition is December 5 at Chino Hills High School. It’s in Chino Hills Regionals through varsity cheer.” What is it that the judges are looking for? Cheer coach Mrs. Oden says, “The judges are specifically looking for crowd involvement, so the cheer portion is a minute and 30 seconds long, and they are specifically looking for us being able to lead a crowd in a crowd-involved cheer.” To prepare the girls for competition, Oden states, “As a coach, it’s just really important to prepare them for the endurance. Our routine is 2 minutes and 30 seconds of non-stop cheer, jumps and stunting, so it’s really just going full out through each practice throughout our competition routine.” The Twentynine Palms cheerleaders are upping their game this year by going to competition.
