TWENTYNINE PALMS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL HAS TO FORFEIT LEAGUE GAME

The CIF announced Wednesday that the Twentynine Palms High School Wildcats basketball team must forfeit its final league game of the season because it played too many non-conference games. The forfeit will keep the undefeated Wildcat team from claiming the DeAnza League title outright. The forfeit follows the resignation of Wildcat head coach TJ Stanford last week, who claimed parental harassment. Stanford is also the school’s athletic director and will remain in that position. CIF only allows teams to play 20 non-conference games and the Twentynine Palms team exceeded that. The game against Rancho Mirage set for February 9 will be forfeit. The Wildcats will still go to CIF playoffs and if the records remain the same, will tie with Rancho Mirage for the league title.
