TWENTYNINE PALMS COUPLE HIT BY DUI HIT AND RUN DRIVER HAVE DIED

The two people critically injured in the suspected DUI crash in Joshua Tree Sunday evening have died. The Riverside County Coroner’s office has identified the victims as Dr. Lonnie Tiner, 80, and his wife, Patricia, 76, both of Twentynine Palms. They were pronounced dead at 11:45 and 11:35 Monday morning at Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Mariah Natividad, 21, a lance corporal with the Exercise Support Division on the Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, is suspected of driving under the influence when her Toyota Prius hit the Tiners’ Ford F-150 truck from behind, just east of Juniper Road and Highway 62 in Joshua Tree, sending it into the desert and causing it to roll over several times about 9:15 Sunday night. CHP Officer Joan Griffin said that Mariah Natividad not only faces felony DUI charges, but vehicular manslaughter charges as well. She is being held in the Morongo Basin Jail with an increased bail of $250,000 and will be arraigned in Joshua Tree Superior Court today.
