TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS IF STATE ACTION MAKES THEM A “SANCTUARY CITY”

TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS BEING A “SANCTUARY CITY”

Does one size fit all? It’s a question becoming increasingly relevant in California as the state begins charting its own path, sometimes in direct opposition to federal desires and expectations. Tonight, one Morongo Basin city–Twentynine Palms–considers the implications. David Haldane reports…
If your city is in a sanctuary state, is it automatically a sanctuary city? And what, if any, federal funding does it stand to lose in the ongoing battle between the federal and state governments over illegal immigration?
Those are among the thorny questions to be tackled at tonight’s Twentynine Palms City Council meeting in the wake of California’s recent declaration that it will become the nation’s first state to routinely refuse cooperation with federal officials enforcing immigration laws. The action charts a direct collision course with the Trump administration, which has vowed to make so-called sanctuary regions pay dearly for such transgressions.
Tune in to find out how Twentynine Palms responds.
