TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL PUTS OFF THE WATER BOARD

After sharing what they felt they could about the firing of City Manager Joe Guzzetta, the Twentynine Palms City Council went on to current business. Reporter Dan Stork says that included a request by the Water District, and a decision about the post of Development Director…
The first discussion item on the agenda of the Twentynine Palms City Council was a request from the Twentynine Palms Water District for a joint meeting with the Council. There was no description of the purpose of the meeting in the agenda, although Water District Board Chairman Sam Moore indicated it had something to do with a request for financial support. Mayor Dan Mintz favored forming a joint task force with Water District Board members to develop an agenda before scheduling the meeting. Council member Jay Corbin balked at that, saying that he wouldn’t vote to authorize something without discussing its purpose more fully up front. After a spirited chicken-and-egg type argument among Corbin, Mintz, and Moore, Corbin’s view won out. Council voted 3-2, with Mintz and Jim Harris opposed, to request the Water District to flesh out their request for a meeting more fully, by themselves. The Council unanimously awarded a part-time Community Development Director position to the consulting firm PMC, at $90 per hour. The evening’s meeting concluded with a review of the second draft of the budget for the coming fiscal year. Most of the discussion centered on the tourism marketing budget.
