TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT: AN AIR BNB APPEAL, AND HONORS FOR A HERO

The Twentynine Palms City Council will kick off tonight’s meeting honoring a young hero. Daviahn Thrasher, a 16-year-old lifeguard whose quick-thinking saved a women suffering a seizure while swimming at Lincoln Military Housing on Wednesday, May 27, will be recognized.

The council will host a public hearing regarding an application for a vacation home rental (VHR) in Indian Cove neighborhood. While there have been appeals by residents, the Planning Commission denied those appeals and is recommending the council do the same and grant the application to Heidi Graybill.

The council will discuss and likely approve a resolution requesting that Governor Gavin Newsom allow for additional businesses to reopen in the city. As of June 3, Twentynine Palms has had 10 cases confirmed of COVID-19 with zero deaths. The council cites economic stress to owners of hotels, bars, gyms, nail salons, massage parlors, and tattoo shops.

The meeting takes place at City Hall, 6136 Adobe Road, starting at 6 p.m. The event can also be live-streamed and will be available on-demand at the city’s website, 29palms.org.
