TWENTYNINE PALMS CITY COUNCIL APPROVES MURAL RESTORAL, VEHICLE STRUCTURES

The Twentynine Palms City Council last night dealt with a hodgepodge of issues ranging from restoring art murals to making garages and carports big enough for RVs. Reporter David Haldane was there, and filed this report…
The art murals of Twentynine Palms will likely get makeovers.
That’s the gist of a resolution approved last night by the City Council offering moral – if not financial – support for the plan. It was suggested by a community group called Action 29 Palms which plans to renovate dozens of public murals citywide to “celebrate and expand” what it calls the city’s “vital and rich artistic legacy.”
Though a spokeswoman could not estimate the cost, she promised to raise it through fundraisers and grants spurred by the city’s blessings.
In other business, the Council amended its Development Code to allow higher carports and garages, eased off-street parking requirements for new developments downtown, approved a $35,000 contract for environmental services related to Project Phoenix and heard a mid-year report declaring the city’s finances sound.
