TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST OF TWO FOR POSSESSION OF STOLEN PROPERTY

Two people were arrested in Twentynine Palms early Thursday morning. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped a vehicle for having an expired license registration tab near Old Dale Road and Desert Queen Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m. The deputy determined that the car’s license plate had been stolen from another vehicle. Inside the vehicle were Misty Bennington, 36, of Joshua Tree, and Charles Ebenal, 25, of Twentynine Palms. During a search of the vehicle, the deputy found checks, passports, drivers’ licenses, credit cards, Social Security cards, and other identification cards in the vehicle. Misty Bennington was arrested for investigation of possession of stolen property, and for a drug-related arrest warrant, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $25,000. Charles Ebenal was also arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000. Ebenal is also being questioned concerning other check fraud cases.
