TOWN GETS ALMOST $400K GRANT FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

Caltrans has awarded grants of $399,800 for pedestrian safety improvements near four public schools in Yucca Valley. The funding will be used for the construction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters along Sage Avenue between Yucca Valley High School and Twentynine Palms Highway, and includes a pedestrian crossing on Sage Avenue at Pueblo Trail. A pleased Yucca Valley Town Manager Mark Nuaimi said, “The Town proactively seeks outside financial resources to assist in the development of infrastructure which is much needed in this community.” Nuaimi said additional improvements approved for funding include the upgrade of the existing school zone flashing beacons and speed indicators at Yucca Valley Elementary School, Onaga Elementary School, and La Contenta Middle School. Town staff is responsible for undertaking the project design process over the next several months. The Town anticipates advertising for construction bids in the spring of 2013, and completion of the improvements is expected in May and June of 2013.
