The TLC Christmas Day feast is a Morongo Basin holiday tradition now in its 33rd year. But Mara Cantelo and Tender Loving Christmas can’t do it without the help of hundreds of volunteers today. They need helpers at the Yucca Valley community center to help turn the room into a winter wonderland for tomorrow’s free Christmas feast. They need people to wrap gifts, set tables, decorate, and just be little helper bees. If you can come for 15 minutes, that’s great, an hour would be better. And then tomorrow is the big feast. For a variety of reasons, many Basin neighbors find themselves isolated over the holidays. If that’s you or it sounds like someone you know, then TLC or Tender Loving Christmas has an invitation to join the free Christmas Day celebration and buffet feast. TLC has spent weeks fundraising, organizing and promoting the all-you-can-eat buffet, entertainment, gifts for youngsters, and boxed meals for shut-ins. It all takes place Christmas Day from 12:30 to 6 p.m. at the Yucca Valley Community Center on the highway at Dumosa. The all-volunteer program will serve salad and vegetables measured by the ton, decorate with wrapping paper measured by the mile and offer a generosity of spirit measured by … well, not everything can be measured.
