Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputies recovered three stolen vehicles this weekend, and arrested four people.
Two Yucca Valley residents were arrested early Sunday morning after a deputy stopped a Toyota about 12:40 a.m. near Old Woman Springs Road and Highway 62. Inside the vehicle were Steven Hoyle, 27, and Leah Edwards, 45. After an investigation, Steven Hoyle was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000. Leah Edwards was arrested for an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $25,000. The stolen vehicle was released to the registered owner at the scene.
A Yucca Valley man was arrested early Saturday morning after he was found driving a stolen vehicle. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped a vehicle near Sunnyslope and Grand Avenue in Yucca Valley about 1 a.m. Driving the vehicle was Ralph Chapman, 48. A records check of the vehicle determined that it had been reported stolen in Palm Springs. Ralph Chapman was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $10,000.
A Twentynine Palms teenager was arrested Sunday morning, accused of possession of a stolen truck. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped a black Chevy Silverado near Aztec Avenue and Crestview Drive in Twentynine Palms about 6:30 a.m. The 16-year-old—whose name was not released due to his age— fled from the truck on foot westbound into a dirt lot, but was captured after a short foot pursuit. Deputies learned that the truck was stolen, but had not been reported as stolen yet. The teenager was arrested for investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle and on a no-bail warrant, and booked into San Bernardino Central Juvenile Hall. The truck was returned to its registered owner.
