THREE ARRESTED IN TWO INCIDENTS INVOLVING CONCEALED WEAPONS

Three people were arrested—including one juvenile—in two unrelated incidents when deputies found them carrying concealed weapons last weekend. On Saturday, deputies were on patrol near Onaga Trail and Sage Avenue in Yucca Valley about 1:30 a.m. near where several vehicle burglaries had taken place. The deputies saw a 16-year-old boy—dressed all in black—riding a bicycle. When the boy saw the deputies, he tried to flee on the bike, but deputies were able to detain him. Deputies discovered the juvenile was in possession of a concealed and loaded handgun. The Yucca Valley teenager was arrested for investigation of being a minor in possession of a concealed firearm, and booked into Juvenile Hall in San Bernardino.

Then about 1 a.m. Sunday morning, deputies were on patrol when they made a traffic stop on a vehicle near Highway 62 and Sunburst Avenue in Joshua Tree. Inside the car were John Powers, 29, of Yucca Valley, and Anthony Jimenez, 18, of Joshua Tree. Deputies determined the car they were in had been reported stolen out of Arizona and Jimenez was on felony probation. During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a shotgun along with several different calibers of ammunition. Both Powers and Jimenez are prohibited from being in possession of weapons and ammunition. John Powers and Anthony Jimenez were arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with their bail set at $50,000 each.
