THEATRE 29 CONCLUDES VERY SUCCESSFUL SUMMER YOUTH THEATER PROGRAM

The wildly successful Theater 29 summer youth theater program came to a joyous celebrated conclusion after six sold-out performances of “Disney’s Aladdin Jr.” over the weekend. More than 80 young participants and adult volunteers celebrated with a smile-soaked cast party Sunday afternoon at the multi-award winning Twentynine Palms Theater. The summer theater program, supported by grants from the City of Twentynine Palms and U.S. Bank, took two groups of kids, 7-11 years old, and 11-17, through the various phases of the theater arts. The students are given instruction in the many facets of live theater from the audition process, the rehearsal cycle, including costuming, an all-day make-up lesson with a professional make-up artist, learning music, choreography, and theater etiquette, culminating in performances. A Theatre 29 spokesman said “With this remarkable program, we are not training performers, we are training audiences. After these kids have experienced all of the effort that it takes to mount a play, they will appreciate, and in many cases, participate in, the live arts for the rest of their lives.” Theatre 29 announced it is already beginning the planning for their 2017 summer youth theater program.
