Theatre 29 announces the cast of the first show of the 2017 season. Reporter Rebecca Havely has the cast list for the comedy “Sylvia”…
Director Eddie Tucker has cast the tail-wagging comedy “Sylvia” at Theatre 29. “Sylvia” is about a man’s relationship with one of those magical animals people so often meet just when they’re at a troubling crossroads in life. Cast in the title role of “Sylvia,” the adorable labradoodle, is Amy Fangmeyer. The story follows a married couple who have moved to Manhattan after 22 years of childrearing in the suburbs. Greg, played by Jeremy Volsteadt, is a financial trader whose career is winding down. His wife Kate, played by Ann Van Haney is an English teacher whose career is taking off. When Greg brings a lost dog home, it causes stress in the marriage, resulting in some hilarious and touching complications. Several other colorful characters are entwined in the tale, all of them played by actor Kurt Schauppner.
“Sylvia” will run Friday, Saturday, and Sundays from January 13 through January 29. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:00 p.m., the three Sunday matinees are at 2:30. Tickets are from $8 to $15 and are available at theatre29.org or by calling 760-361-4151. Because of strong language, “Sylvia” is not recommended for children under 13.
