SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING DEATH OF WEST VALLEY INMATE FROM TWENTYNINE PALMS

The Sheriffs Department is conducting an investigation after an inmate from Twentynine Palms died at the West Valley Detention Center Sunday evening. According to Sheriff’s reports, the victim, Gary Shannon, 72, of Twentynine Palms, had returned to the West Valley Detention Center from Arrowhead Regional Medical Center around 5 p.m. Shannon reportedly complained he felt light headed and dizzy and was lowered to the ground by medical staff and Deputies. He was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Hospital. Medical staff were unable to revive Shannon and he was pronounced deceased around 6:30 p.m. Gary Shannon was arrested on February 11, 2020, for investigation of continuous lewd and lascivious acts with minors under 14 years of age. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine Shannon’s cause of death.

TWENTYNINE PALMS WOMAN ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF 6-YEAR-OLD CHILD

A Twentynine Palms woman was arrested Wednesday, accused of sexually abusing a young child. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were alerted November 25 to a potential case of child sexual abuse by Children and Family Services. The six-year-old child claimed to have been sexually abused by Kimberly Willet, 28, on two separate occasions. An arrest warrant was issued for Willet on February 5, and deputies located Willet about 2:45 p.m. in the 73400 block of Sunrise Avenue in Twentynine Palms. Kimberly Willet was arrested for investigation of lewd acts with a child under 14 years old; booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $250,000.

ACCUSED CHILD MOLESTER IN COURT, CHARGES AND BAIL ENHANCED

Accused child molester John Linn of Pioneertown, 55, was in Joshua Tree Court Thursday, January 16, and had serious formal charges pressed by the District Attorney and a substantial increase in his bail. Linn had been arrested for investigation of rape, lewd acts with a child under 14, and false imprisonment with bail set at $250,000. At the arraignment he was formally charged with kidnapping to commit sexual offense, forcible oral copulation of a child, forcible rape of a child, 2 counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16 and dissuading a witness. His bail was increased to $1 million. The investigation began January 6, when Yucca Valley High School Resource Officer Michael Sellers learned of a possible sexual relationship between Linn and a 14-year-old girl, the relationship had gone on for more than a year. Linn was an assistant coach for the 2019 Yucca Valley High School football team. He was involved in the Pioneertown Wild West Theater, and country-western dance groups. After his arrest, Linn was relieved of all duties related to the school district. A Pioneertown musician, guitar maker and western re-enactor who played at Stagecoach in 2010 was arrested Tuesday afternoon and faces three felony charges related to child molestation. On January 6, Yucca Valley High School Resource Officer Michael Sellers learned of a possible sexual relationship between John Linn, 55, and a 14-year-old girl. During the investigation, deputies learned the relationship had gone on for more than a year. John Linn was arrested on suspicion of rape, lewd acts with a child under 14, and false imprisonment, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $250,000. Linn was an assistant coach for the 2019 Yucca Valley High School football team. He was also heavily involved in community events including the Pioneertown Wild West Theater, and a variety of country-western dance groups. Detectives are concerned there may be other victims. The Morongo Unified School District announced that John Linn has been relieved of all duties related to the school district. Linn served as an assistant during the 2019 football season. His primary function was as a videographer along with other minor coaching duties. The school district says Linn was properly vetted and approved by the Board of Education prior to beginning his duties.

PIONEERTOWN MUSICIAN ACCUSED OF 3 FELONY SEX CHARGES

A Pioneertown musician, guitar maker and western re-enactor who played at Stagecoach in 2010 was arrested Tuesday afternoon and faces three felony charges related to child molestation. 55-year-old Jonathan Andrew Linn, of the John Linn Band, was arrested at his Pioneertown home by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department at around 4 p.m.

Detectives began the investigation from a tip by the girl’s school resource officer. Linn was a volunteer at the girl’s school, and participated in several dance groups that included young girls; detectives are concerned there may be other victims. Linn is also a principal in the Pioneertown Wild West Theater.

According to Sheriff’s records, he is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $250,000 bail. Booking information indicates that John Linn faces charges of rape, lewd acts with a child under 14, and false imprisonment. Linn is scheduled to appear at the Morongo Superior Court on Thursday.
