STRICT COVID PROTOCOLS FOR TOMORROW’S BATTLE OF THE BELL FOOTBALL GAME

After taking a year off for the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the 53rd Battle of the Bell football game between Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms High Schools is on for Friday, April 9. The football season is short this year; Twentynine Palms has a record of 1-1, with its sole win last week against Desert Hot Springs, 69-6. Yucca Valley is 0-1; the team was shut out last week against Cathedral City, 29-0.

The Yucca Valley Trojans won the Bell in 2019; however, the Twentynine Palms Wildcats won the Bell the previous 14 consecutive years, going back to 2005. The overall record for the Bell game is 33 wins for the Wildcats to 19 for Yucca Valley.

The game will be played in Twentynine Palms; kick-off is at 7 p.m.

Covid-19 safety protocols will be strictly enforced for the game.

Twentynine Palms High School Principal Mike Ruggiero said there is no general admission to the event.

Each player/cheerleader is permitted two adult guests who reside in the same household.  A list has been provided to each school’s AD by the coaches.  Only people on the list will be allowed into the stadium.  There Is no general admission to the event.

Spectators will have to answer “No” to the COVID screening questions and will have their temp taken with a contactless thermometer.  If the spectator’s temperature is above 100.3*, they will not be admitted.

Spectators will be directed to socially distance in the stands.

There will be no snack shack/concessions available.  Spectators should plan on bringing water etc.

Spectators will not be on the field after the game to take pictures as has happened in the past.

Spectators will have no access to the field.  Spectators/parents will not have access to cheerleaders/players until after the game outside of the stadium.
