SOVIET SCI-FI FILM SCREENED TONIGHT IN JOSHUA TREE

A Soviet movie made in 1963 will be the star of a film screening in Joshua Tree Friday evening. “Ikarie XB-1,” also known by its English title, “Voyage to the End of the Universe,” is regarded by many as one of the best science-fiction movies of the 1960s. Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey,” made 5 years later, has many similarities to the classic Soviet film. The movie will be screened at Space Cowboy Books, 61871 29 Palms Hwy, located in the Sun Alley shops in Joshua Tree. There will also be readings, music, and art, all starting at 7:30 p.m.
