SOME FIRE SAFETY TIPS

Even small fires can be devastating to life and property, and there are some simple things you can do to protect yourself. Reporter Rebecca Havely has these fire safety tips…
With little warning, a fire can quickly engulf most homes. With fires killing more Americans than all natural disasters combined and with 85 percent of all fire deaths occurring in residences, a few simple steps you can take, may save your life and the lives of loved ones.
First, make sure you have working smoking detectors installed on every level of your home, and outside sleeping areas. Smoke kills three out of four people in home fires. Purchase and know how to use general purpose ABC type fire extinguisher for all types of small fires. Think ahead, and prepare and escape plan. Know at least two ways out of your house, even in low or no light conditions. Always store gas and other flammable liquids in safety containers and keep them outside of the house and garage. Keep lighters and matches out of the hands of children, and never smoke in bed. Simple rules, yes, but rules that can save lives.
