SNEAK PEAK AT PARADE OF HOMES

Five homes have been selected for Reach Out Morongo Basin’s Parade of Homes tour on February 16. Now in its 16th year, the fundraiser pays for services to Morongo Basin senior and disabled residents. The self-guided tour features extraordinary homes in Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree, and Yucca Valley. In the coming days Z107.7 previews the homes on the tour. Today we go to Twentynine Palms. Here’s Mike Lipsitz with a sneak peak of two properties there…

Parade of Homes ticket holders may begin the self-guided tour anywhere they like. Here’s a sneak peek at two stand-out properties on the eastern end of the February 16 tour.

The newly constructed Domestead is the Wonder Valley home of Randy Smith. Built with a vinyl airform, it is reinforced with a sprayed on concrete exterior making it wind-, fire-, and earthquake-proof, according to Smith. This home-of-the-future’s thick walls maintain a comfortable indoor climate no matter the weather.

Closer to town, Joan Robey’s artistic retreat is dubbed Wheel House. The former home of Huell Howser—creator and host of PBS’s California’s Gold—this mid-century modern home retains numerous found and repurposed objects owned by the avid collector. Five huge, antique millstones surround the pool, giving the home its name. Parade of Homes tickets are $25 and include access to all five featured homes.

Get your Parade of Homes tickets in Yucca Valley at ArtFx and Furnishings and at the Chamber of Commerce in the California Welcome Center; in Joshua Tree here at Z107.7 studios; and at the Twentynine Palms Visitors Center, and the Desert Trail.
