SHERIFF’S OHV ENFORCEMENT NETS 259 WARNINGS OUT OF 794 CONTACTS

The Morongo Basin Station is the third largest Sheriff’s station in both area and total number of calls for law enforcement services in San Bernardino County. Within the station’s area of responsibility are the incorporated communities of Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley, as well as the unincorporated communities of Morongo Valley, Landers, Johnson Valley, Joshua Tree, Wonder Valley, Pioneertown, Amboy, Cadiz, and Flamingo Heights. During the holiday weekend, 16 deputies from the Morongo Basin Off-Highway Vehicle team conducted 128 hours of OHV patrol. They responded to 57 off-highway vehicle disturbance calls from the public and made 284 proactive patrols in areas with previously reported illegal OHV activity. Deputies contacted 794 riders and issued 259 warnings. The primary violations observed by deputies were private land trespassing, vehicle registration, and helmet violations.
The OHV enforcement team is solely funded by a state grant, and the team works in conjunction with San Bernardino County Code Enforcement and the Bureau of Land Management to assist in the enforcement and education of OHV riders.
