SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING DEATH OF WEST VALLEY INMATE FROM TWENTYNINE PALMS

The Sheriffs Department is conducting an investigation after an inmate from Twentynine Palms died at the West Valley Detention Center Sunday evening. According to Sheriff’s reports, the victim, Gary Shannon, 72, of Twentynine Palms, had returned to the West Valley Detention Center from Arrowhead Regional Medical Center around 5 p.m. Shannon reportedly complained he felt light headed and dizzy and was lowered to the ground by medical staff and Deputies. He was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Hospital. Medical staff were unable to revive Shannon and he was pronounced deceased around 6:30 p.m. Gary Shannon was arrested on February 11, 2020, for investigation of continuous lewd and lascivious acts with minors under 14 years of age. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine Shannon’s cause of death.
