SERVICES SET FOR SUE KELLY

Mary Sue Kelly, an 18-year-resident of Twentynine Palms, died May 7, of lung cancer. She was 77 years old. Sue Kelly is survived by her sister, Vickie Waite, of Twentynine Palms; her brother, Bill Kelly, of Palm Springs; her nephew, Tollian Waite, and niece, Sarah Waite, of Twentynine Palms; numerous cousins across the country and an extended family of lifelong friends. Sue Kelly was an actress who had performed on stage, in films, and in television since she was 16 years old. Locally, she performed at Theatre 29 in Twentynine Palms, the Hi-Desert Playhouse and Blak Box Theater in Joshua Tree, Groves Cabin in Morongo Valley, and the St. Joseph’s Players in Yucca Valley. She was well known for her character roles, and her awards included a Desert Theatre League award. Sue was also the owner of the Silk Purse shop in Twentynine Palms until her retirement in 2014, and an artist and member of the 29 Palms Artists’ Guild. A celebration of life for Sue Kelly will be held on Sunday, May 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the 29 Palms Inn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Theatre 29 in Twentynine Palms, St. Joseph’s Players in Yucca Valley, or Palms-N-Paws animal shelter in Twentynine Palms.
