SERIAL EVADER ARRESTED AFTER CRASH AND FOOT CHASE

A Yucca Valley man with multiple convictions for vehicle theft and felony evading was arrested again Saturday for reckless driving while he was evading Sheriff’s deputies. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Jim Thornburg, he spotted Odie Beavers, 45, driving a Ford pick-up truck with a cracked windshield about 10:20 near Natoma and Sherwood in Joshua Tree and attempted to make a traffic stop. Thornburg said Beavers sped away in an attempt to elude deputies and then drove off into the desert. After crashing into a tree near Adobe Drive and Sherwood, Thornburg said Beavers fled on foot and was finally located hiding in an abandoned house in the 6400 block of Granada. Odie Beavers, who was on probation for felony failure to yield, was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, booked at the West Valley Detention Center, and is being held without bail for his probation violation. Beavers has at least four convictions for vehicle theft and two convictions for felony failure to yield.
