SCHOOL DISTRICT SPONSORING FREE SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM

Just as learning does end when school lets out, neither does the need for good nutrition. Reporter Dan Stork says there’s free lunch and breakfast available for children during part of the summer…
The Morongo Unified School District is sponsoring a summer feeding program, in conjunction with the US Department of Agriculture and the National School Lunch Program. There is no paperwork. Just show up, and each child will provided with a nutritious meal absolutely free. Breakfast and lunch are also available to adult for $2.50 and $3.50 per meal, respectively. The distribution locations are Twentynine Palms High School, the Community Services Center, and Knotts Sky Park in Twentynine Palms, and Yucca Mesa Elementary School, the Boys and Girls Club, and Yucca Valley High School in the west end of the Morongo Basin. Distribution sites will be open Monday through Thursday, from June 23 to July 31 for most of the sites. They are open for a very short time at each site—15 or 20 minutes—and at different times for every site. A complete schedule is listed with this story at z1077fm.com.
