SCHOOL BOARD SEES PROPOSED DISTRICTS, APPROVES TEACHERS CONTRACT

The Morongo Unified School District board of education met in open session last night. Here’s reporter Andrew Dieleman with the details…
The MUSD Board of Education meeting began with a board study session on the new proposed boundaries for trustee areas. President of the National Demographics Corporation Douglas Johnson discussed two maps with the board members: an orange map, which focuses on board-member representation in the district, and a purple map, which focuses on maintaining the unity of desert communities. The board members requested additional information from Johnson on both maps. In open session, the board unanimously approved the new Sunshine Proposal between the board and the Morongo Teachers Association and a policy update regarding the superintendent’s salary and benefits. The board also adopted the new Town Center Mall lease agreement by a split decision of 4-1. Board Member Chris Proudfoot questioned the more than $200,000 price for the 18-month rental.
