SCHOOL BOARD SAYS LOCKER BIDS TOO HIGH, MEETS TONIGHT

The Morongo Unified School Board is expected to reject bids for new lockers tonight. Reporter David Haldane checks tonight’s meeting…
Students at La Contenta Middle School and Twentynine Palms Junior High School will have to live with beat-up lockers a while longer. That’s because the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education is set to reject all bids to replace them at its regular meeting tonight. Though the project’s original estimated cost was $300,000, the lowest bid came in at nearly $499,500, almost $200,000 more. The staff’s recommendation: hold out a while for some better bids. And, oh yes: add the Yucca Valley High School boys’ locker room to the project for good measure.
The open portion of the meeting convenes 7 p.m. at Joshua Tree Elementary School on Sunburst Avenue.
