SCHOOL BOARD MEETS, TEACHERS DAY, TEACHERS SOUGHT, AND MEALS MAY GO UP

The Morongo Unified School Board meets in regular session. Reporter David Haldane says a day to honor teachers, a call for more teachers, and an increase in the price of meals are all on the agenda…
Teachers in the Morongo Unified School District may soon have a day set aside just for them. At least that’s the goal of a resolution to be considered by the Board of Education at its regular meeting tonight. The resolution would declare next Wednesday—May 11—as a district-wide Day of the Teacher in honor of those, it says, “who have dedicated their lives and talents” to the “truly vital role” of educating students.
The resolution does not specify, exactly, how the day is to be observed.
In other actions, the board will consider putting out a call for “fully qualified educators” to fill a number of open positions for next year, as well as increasing the price of student meals by 25 cents.
Tonight’s meeting gets underway 7 p.m. at Joshua Tree Elementary School on Sunburst Avenue.
