SCHOOL BOARD MEETS, BAUMGARTEN UP FOR SUPERINTENDANT

The Morongo Unified School District Board of Education is ready to appoint a permanent superintendent. Reporter Dan Stork says they didn’t have to look too far…
At its February 17 meeting, the MUSD Board of Education is scheduled to vote on whether to remove the “interim” designation from the title of Interim Superintendent Tom Baumgarten, effective immediately. The post carries a base salary of $165,000 per year. The contract runs through June, 2018.
In other business, Amy Woods, the Director of Secondary Curriculum, and staff and students from Twentynine Palms High and Junior High Schools will present information on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) program.
There will be a presentation and public hearing on school fee justification, followed by a vote to raise statutory fees imposed on new residential and commercial/industrial projects. Other scheduled votes concern a variety of board bylaws and an English honors course outline. The public meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Joshua Tree Elementary School.
