SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS AB 1266 TONIGHT

The November 19 meeting of the Morongo Unified School District Board of Education begins with a closed session at 5 p.m. on discipline and bargaining issues. At 5:25, the Board begins a work/study session on field trips and on the Single Plans for Student Achievement from Joshua Tree and Oasis Elementary Schools, and Yucca Valley and Black Rock High Schools. The regular open session at 7 p.m. will adopt those four plans. Yucca Mesa Elementary School and Twentynine Palms Junior High School will be recognized for academic achievement. Assistant Superintendent Doug Weller and legal counsel will present information on the controversial School Success and Opportunity Act, AB 1266. The action agenda returns to authorization of mileage stipends of $400 per month to the Directors of Maintenance and Information Technology, continued from the previous meeting. Also scheduled are approvals of Board policies on use of copyrighted materials, school plans and site councils, food allergies and special dietary needs, District mission, vision, philosophy, and comprehensive plans. Review items to be presented for a reading cover certain policies related to special education, reimbursement of expenses, and the bids process.
