RECORD ATTENDANCE IN JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

More than 327,000 people visited Joshua Tree National Park in March, setting an all-time attendance record. In March 2015, 256,000 people visited the park. Park officials said visitor centers, campgrounds, and hiking trails were extremely busy as park visitors enjoyed the weather and a much better wildflower bloom than in the past few years. This year is also the centennial of the National Park Service, and Superintendent David Smith said, “More and more people from around the world, and even here in the southland, realize what a special and unique place the park is. There really is no other place like this on the planet.  Our challenge is how to enable these new park visitors to enjoy the park while still protecting the fragile desert ecosystem.”
