RAIN IN THE FORECAST, TIPS FOR DRIVING ON WET ROADS

The National Weather Service is forecasting rain for the Morongo Basin. With information on how you can drive safely in the rain, here’s reporter Andrew Dieleman…

Substances such as oil and other vehicle fluids can build up on roadways over time. When mixed with rain water, these substances create a slick layer on the road that becomes slippery and can cause vehicles to hydroplane, sliding on the roadway without control of the vehicle. The California Department of Transportation is urging drivers to do the following: make sure your tires have appropriate tread and air pressure and test your windshield wipers. While driving, reduce your speed, leave space between vehicles, turn on your headlights, never use cruise control, avoid sudden acceleration and braking and never drive through standing water or closed flood areas. TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN!
