PUBLIC’S HELP SOUGHT IN FINDING MAN SUSPECTED OF ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING

Sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help in locating a Twentynine Palms man suspected of trying to kidnap a 14-year-old girl. According to a Sheriff’s report, the girl was outside her home on Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms about 3 p.m. Thursday when a man, later identified as Freddie Day, 43, came up to her and asked her to help him jump start his quad vehicle. The girl told him she couldn’t help him and there was no one at her home who could help. After Day walked away, she went inside her home. As she entered her bedroom, she realized that Day was behind her. The girl told deputies that Day told her he could have raped and killed her, and then he grabbed her and gave her a “bear hug.” The girl then grabbed him by the throat, which made him release her, and she ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Day fled into the desert east of the home. Neighbors told deputies they saw Day in the area but didn’t know where he went. Deputies performed an extensive area check but didn’t find him. If anyone has any information about Freddie Day, please call the Sheriff’s department at 760-366-4175.
