PUBLIC COMMENT SOUGHT ON WATER MANAGEMENT IN MOJAVE NATIONAL PRESERVE

The National Park Service is taking public comment on its water management plan for the Mojave National Preserve. About 311 springs, seeps, wells, and 137 guzzlers (which provide water for big and small game, such as bighorn sheep and birds) are known to exist in the Preserve, although some conservationists say the true number of natural springs is 101. The management plan offers four alternatives, all of which would eliminate water sources in the desert wilderness, as well as some outside the preserve. The deadline to make public comment is April 19.
