PROFESSIONAL KUDOS FOR HI-DESERT MEDICAL CENTER

While life-saving in certain circumstances, unnecessary Cesarean-sections can pose serious health risks for babies and mothers. In this report, Mike Lipsitz says the Basinā€™s Hi-Desert Medical Center is leading the way in reducing unnecessary C-sectionsā€¦
Hi-Desert Medical Center was recently recognized for reducing its Cesarean-section rate for low-risk, first-time mothers. The hospital was among the honor roll of California hospitals recognized by California Department of Health and Human Services for meeting or exceeding the federal 2020 goal for C-section rates three years early. Maternal performance data reported by Smart Care California showed HDMCā€™s 2015 C-section rate among low-risk, first-time mothers was 20.1 percent, which earned the hospital an ā€œabove averageā€ rating. It is one of only 36 hospitals in the state to achieve such a rating. The national average is currently 27.3 percent.
