POSTAL SERVICE WARNS ABOUT SCAMS

A new scam has con artists targeting their victims via e-mail, pretending to be with the Postal Service. Managing Editor Tami Roleff says the Postal officials are putting out a warningā€¦
The U.S. Postal Inspection Services is warning residents of fraudulent emails and phone calls which try to gather personal information. According to a Postal Inspection spokeswoman, the email claims that a package was unable to be delivered, and directs the recipient to click a link in the message or open an attachment to print a label. However, clicking on the link or opening the attachment installs a malicious virus on the computer which can steal personal information. If you receive an email claiming to be from the Postal Service, do not click on the link or open the attachment. Forward the email to [email protected] and then delete the email. Scam artists are also contacting potential victims by phone with similar claims of problems delivering a package. Do not give any personal information over the telephone. Hang up and call your local post office to verify the call, and if it was a scam, call the Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
