PIONEER DAYS EVENTS START TOMORROW IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

The Twentynine Palms Salute is a tribute to those who serve our country—military, first responders, and volunteers. The Salute will be held during Pioneer Days in Twentynine Palms, and begins with the arrival of the American Veterans Traveling Vietnam Wall at Tom Nicoll Stadium about 4 p.m. Wednesday. The wall will leave the Hi-Desert Star parking lot in Yucca Valley about 3 p.m. and will be escorted by Rolling Thunder motorcycles and Fueled by the Fallen race cars. The opening ceremony of the traveling Vietnam Wall is set for 1 p.m. Thursday. The Twentynine Palms High School select choir will sing the National Anthem. The wall will be on continuous display through 3 p.m. Sunday, October 18. Managing editor Tami Roleff fills in some of the other events during the Pioneer Days celebration…
Following the opening of the traveling Vietnam Wall to the public on Thursday, the carnival will open Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m., and noon on Saturday and Sunday. A USO-style show will be on the stage at Luckie Park Friday from 5 to 9, and will feature Ben Costello and John Babrowski doing the famous “Who’s on First” routine; the music of the 40s and 50s performed by Just Like That; Joe Daniel the Marine Sandpiper; and 60s and 70s music by the Sensations. On Saturday, the Fire Department will hold their pancake breakfast at the fire station starting at 6 a.m. The Pioneer Days Parade starts at 10 a.m. The Old Timers Gathering is at the Old Schoolhouse at 1 p.m. The 29 Palms Art Gallery’s chili dinner starts at 5 p.m. Desert Sol will perform at 8:30 p.m. in Luckie Park. On Sunday, a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. will give tribute to those who serve and those who have lost their lives. For a complete schedule, call the Chamber of Commerce at 760-367-3445.
