PAUL COOK VOTES TO PUBLICIZE AND COMBAT IRANIAN GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION

Representative Paul Cook of Yucca Valley voted Wednesday, with nearly every other Republican congressman, to pass a bill requiring the Department of Treasury to disclose the assets of Iran’s top political and military leaders. The Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act, HR1638, approved in a 289-135, vote, will force the Department of Treasury to disclose the wealth of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and 80 other senior officials and Revolutionary Guard commanders. The legislation, which was opposed by three Republicans and about half of the Democratic representatives, requires that the Treasury Department provide a report on how the Iranian leaders acquired their massive assets and how they are being used. The report must be published on the Treasury Department’s website in English as well as in Farsi, Arabic, and Azeri. The goal of the legislation is to help companies avoid doing business with leaders who support terrorism.
