More than 800,000 coronavirus vaccine doses have been given in San Bernardino County since frontline workers became eligible in December, officials announced Wednesday (April 7), the day after opening eligibility to all residents age 16 and up. The same day the vaccine milestone was announced, the county also entered the less-restrictive orange tier of California’s coronavirus reopening plan. The county reported 261 cases and eight deaths on Wednesday. Because of delays in reporting, the number of deaths reflect an updating of statistics, not what happened on a given day.
Here are the latest San Bernardino County numbers.
Confirmed cases: 291,989 total, up 261 from Tuesday, averaging 148 reported per day in the past week
Deaths: 4,137 total, up 8 from Tuesday, averaging 18 reported per day in the past week
Hospital survey: 103 confirmed and 19 suspected patients hospitalized Tuesday, including 25 confirmed and 0 suspected patients in the ICU, with 25 of 25 facilities reporting. The number of confirmed patients is down 17% from a week earlier.
Tests: 2,755,602 total, up 3,442 from Tuesday, averaging 7,810 reported per day in the past week
Resolved cases (estimate): 286,650 total, up 183 from Tuesday, averaging 122 per day in the past week
Vaccinations: San Bernardino County residents have received 800,491 doses, with 233,987 people partially vaccinated and another 292,154 fully vaccinated, as of Tuesday.
Reopening plan tier: Orange (moderate risk level; some indoor business operations are open with modifications) based on these metrics as of Tuesday:
New cases per day per 100,000 residents: 3.4
Case rate adjusted for testing volume: 3.4
Test positivity rate: 2.0% (2.0% in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods)
What’s next: To advance to the yellow tier where more businesses can open or expand capacity, the county would need an adjusted case rate below 2.0 and a positivity rate below 2.0% for the whole county and 2.2% in disadvantaged neighborhoods for two consecutive weeks, and to have been in the orange tier for three weeks. San Bernardino County moved to the orange tier April 6. If metrics get worse, the county could move back into the more restrictive red tier.
