OPEN HOUSE AT THE YUCCA VALLEY ANIMAL SHELTER, NEW MANAGER NAMED

The Yucca Valley animal shelter will hold an open house Saturday, December 5, from 11 to 5. Tours of the animal shelter will be offered, along with refreshments. In addition, the open house kicks off a week-long low-cost adoption event through December 12, in which adoption fees for dogs and puppies will be $50, and $20 for cats and kittens (Low-cost adoption fees are limited to one dog and one cat per household.) All adoptions include spaying or neutering, and vaccinations. The Yucca Valley animal shelter is located at 4755 Maline Way, and is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5.

After nearly 23 years of working for the town of Yucca Valley, Melanie Crider, the town’s animal care and control manager, will be retiring at the end of the year. Crider will be replaced by Douglas Smith, who has been the shelter manager for the county’s animal shelters in Devore and Big Bear since 2009. Smith started his career with the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society in 1984, before transferring to the county in 1990.
