ONE SUSPECT PLEADS GUILTY IN TWENTYNINE PALMS DRIVE-BY SHOOTING

The second man arrested in connection with a Twentynine Palms drive-by shooting last month pleaded guilty Monday to being an accessory to attempted murder. Authorities say that following an argument with a resident in the 72700 block of Wildcat Way over the way Joshua Hill, 18, was driving, Hill left the scene and returned about 10 minutes later with Branden Smith and Corey Harris, 20, in the car with him. Investigators say that Hill fired eight shots at the victim’s home before fleeing; the residents were not injured, but two bullets struck the house. Deputies have arrested three men in connection with the case: Joshua Hill, Branden Smith, 18, and Corey Harris, 20. On Monday, Branden Smith pleaded guilty to being an accessory. His sentencing is set for December 2. Joshua Hill and Corey Harris are charged with attempted murder using a firearm and they are being held on $1 million bail each.
