ONE DEAD FOLLOWING HOURS-LONG ARMED STANDOFF FRIDAY IN FLAMINGO HEIGHTS

A man is dead following an hours-long standoff in Flamingo Heights Friday.

Deputies were called just before 1 p.m. to the area of Napa Road and Fortuna for shots fired. A Sheriff’s spokesman said a man was barricaded inside a home and shot at deputies when they arrived. Deputies called for back-up, and it seemed as if the entire Sheriff’s Department responded; there were dozens of unmarked vehicles, multiple Special Enforcement Division—or SWAT—vehicles, an ambulance and fire truck, and three helicopters at the scene.

When the man stopped negotiating, a robot was sent inside the house and it found a deceased male about 8:15 p.m. The cause of death is unknown as of Friday evening. The Sheriff’s Special Investigation Division is conducting the investigation.
