ONE ARRESTED IN A BOLD JOSHUA TREE VEHICLE THEFT

A Joshua Tree man was arrested Friday, after he allegedly stole a truck, then took it for a joyride. According to a Sheriff’s report, the truck’s owner called the Sheriff’s Department shortly before 6 p.m. Friday to report someone was in his truck and trying to steal it from the 6000 block of Outpost Road in Joshua Tree. While waiting for the deputy to arrive, the truck’s owner told the Sheriff’s dispatcher he saw the man, later identified as Michael Martin, 24, of Joshua Tree, dent his truck’s hood with a metal spray can, and asked if he could walk over and take out the thief with a golf club, but the dispatcher replied it was “not a good idea.” Martin then got the truck started and drove off in it. The deputy located Martin and the truck at Outpost and Alta Loma Drive about 10 minutes later. Michael Martin was arrested for investigation of felony failure to yield and vehicle theft, booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $100,000.
