NEW MORONGO BASIN SHERIFF’S STATION CAPTAIN NAMED

There is literally a new Sheriff in Town, and the City, and all the County areas of the Morongo Basin too. County Sheriff Rod Hoops announced yesterday that Lieutenant Richard Boswell, the current second-in-command of the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s station, will be promoted to Captain and assume command when Captain Donnie Miller retires in August. Boswell has been at the Morongo Basin station since July 2000 as a sergeant. He was promoted to lieutenant in February of 2009. Boswell, who lives in the Morongo Basin with Cindy, his wife of 20 years, started out as a reserve deputy 31 years ago, formally joining the Sheriff’s Department in 1983. He has six children ranging from 13-28. Boswell started out with the jail system and then moved around the County with assignments to Baker, where he was the resident deputy; Apple Valley; Victorville; and here in the Morongo basin. He first was assigned here in 1991 as an undercover narcotics officer, then back with the Sheriff’s specialized enforcement team in 1995. Captain-select Boswell described himself as “in a daze” just hours after getting the call from Sheriff Hoops. He told Z107.7 News, “I will continue to provide quality law enforcement to the communities of Morongo Basin, adapting the style of the local Sheriff’s office to meet the unique needs of our desert area.” With his new command, Captain Richard Boswell a.k.a. “Boz”, also becomes the Chief of Police for the City of Twentynine Palms and the Town of Yucca Valley, both whom contract with the County Sheriff to provide law enforcement
