NEW IMPROV TROUPE FORMING AT THEATRE 29, WORKSHOPS NEXT WEEK

Even as “Into the Woods” opens tonight for a four-week, 12-performance run, Theatre 29 is preparing for the start of their resident repertory improvisational troupe. Prior to the audition and subsequent formation of the troupe, Theatre 29 will hold two days of workshops, at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, and 6:00 p.m. May 4. The workshops are intended to instruct those interested in improvisation and to give people an idea of the qualities sought in prospective troupe members. Auditions for the troupe are now set for 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Theatre 29, 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms. The troupe will be formed on the night of auditions. Improvisation, or improv, is a form of live theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue of a game, scene or story are made up in the moment. Often improvisers will take a suggestion from the audience, or draw on some other source of inspiration to get started. The repertory improvisational comedy troupe will perform at select intervals during the Theatre 29 season. The “Theatre 29 Repertory Improvisational Comedy Troupe” is forming under the direction of veteran performer and U.C. Riverside professor Chris Fleischman. Fleischman is seeking to cast a troupe of eight to 10 players, ages 18 and older.  Live performances (rated PG-13) by the troupe are scheduled at Theatre 29 June 10, July 15, August 12, September 23, October 28, November 11, and December 30. Ticket prices are greatly reduced with general admission at $10, military, and seniors are $7 and $5 for students with ID. Theatre 29 season ticket holders are free.
