MORONGO VALLEY CRASH KILLS DOG, JOSHUA TREE CRASH INJURES WOMAN

A man escaped serious injury, but his dog was killed, in a roll-over crash in Morongo Valley Wednesday night. About 8:30 p.m., a pick-up truck was traveling westbound on Highway 62 when for unknown reasons the truck left the highway and hit a power pole near North Star Trail. The truck rolled over multiple times and landed on its roof. Firewood in the back of the truck scattered all over the highway, forcing lanes in both directions to be closed for about an hour. Morongo Valley firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver, who was alert and talking when he was rescued; he was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. His dog, however, died in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.

A woman received minor injuries in a motorcycle crash in Joshua Tree last night. About 7:45, a sport bike and a car crashed at Park Boulevard and Highway 62. The female passenger on the bike received minor injuries; she was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
