MORONGO BASIN SHERIFF’S STATION ADJUSTS TO CANCELLATIONS

One of the effects of the county’s directives to cancel all gatherings of people is on the court systems. The Joshua Tree Courthouse will be open for “limited emergency matters only.” Managing editor Tami Roleff says that means some of the Sheriff’s deputies who work at the courthouse have been temporarily reassigned…

Newly promoted Captain Luke Niles told the Yucca Valley Town Council Tuesday that because the local courthouse has drastically cut back its services, Sheriff’s deputies have been reassigned.

“We’ve deployed all of our local deputy sheriffs who work in court services to a patrol function amongst the grocery outlets and commercial businesses throughout the Morongo Basin.”

Niles added that the coronavirus threat has forced some changes in the jail as well, effective March 19.

“We are going to limit visitation and some outside access to the inmates; all of that information’s been posted on the Sheriff’s website and our Facebook accounts.”

Only attorney and official visits will be allowed until further notice.
